Taisu Webcam #2 : Lake Hoare, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica

This is the second Taisu that we built in 2002.  It has a datalogger and a wireless Internet interface, and an Aethalometer - our pollution particulate monitor.  Excess power from the panels is dumped as heat inside the case, and keeps the interior warm - as much as 70'F even though it's below freezing outside.  This Taisu has a fixed webcam that shows a given image.  Although you can't look around, there is a lot more activity at the Hoare site, and you may see a helicopter on the landing pad in the mid-foreground.

Access to the camera is password protected.  Please send me e-mail and I'll send you a temporary username and password.  We have to do this to prevent undue load on the communications link between Antarctica and the rest of the world, and also to prevent unauthorized access.  Here's an example of what you'll see: I added pointers to indicate the features.
